This year we were back to one of our favourite cities Delhi. If you haven’t read our last post on Delhi you can do so here.
The last time we missed visiting one place that was the most loved places in Delhi. So we had to come back even if it meant just for a weekend. Call us crazy but that’s how we roll! 😀 😛
So the place we are talking about is called Lodhi Garden – Delhi’s favourite Garden. If you’re wondering what’s so special about a garden let us give you a quick introduction. A walk through this garden takes you through the history, heritage, nature and birds of this garden in the heart of New Delhi.
And as they say, Delhi or any place can be explored better with guidance from a local. They share insights that are not just popular with tourists but also with the locals which gives it a unique experience.
So here’s a little preview of our next featured artist. We met Siddharth who is a Wildlife and nature photographer. He was our guide and unofficial photographer for the day. He gave us a tour of Lodi Garden which he considers as his second home.
Let’s get to know more about him!
1. Tell us something about yourself – name, location, etc.?
I am Siddharth Hetfield, am from Bihar India but I reside with my family in New Delhi, India.
2. When did you start photography?
I started Photography way back in 2016 with a Mobile Phone and it was my Father’s phone (Nokia C2-0) I used to borrow it when he was free with the phone, I would go to my lawn and start clicking the surroundings (the year 2012-2013, later on when I grew using Mobile phone I bought my own first-ever phone which was a second hand (Nokia Lumia 820 – the year 2015 – 2017) which had Pro Mode that time which we see now in today’s smartphone. That phone took out my Photography skills and I was fond of using its pro mode then it goes on, and after few years my younger brother had brought one DSLR, it was one of his friends’ and I went to check on it after playing with it I decided to borrow it for 300rs per day; it goes like this for almost a week when I finally choose to buy not a new one but the same old one. And that’s how my journey began in Photography World and it still continuous.
3. What type of photography do you specialise in?
Well, when I started photography, I used to click everything I see or I find beautiful, but as I got experience I was more Happy clicking Flowers, Trees, Sky, Sunset or Sunrise, and Dogs. Later when I got to know about the Photography Genre that there are, like Streets, Portraits, Landscape Wildlife, Architectural and many more, I didn’t find any interest in other Genres except Wildlife and Nature because this is what I had been doing since I had a mobile phone. Hence I am specialised in Wildlife & Nature Photography.
4. What is so special about Lodhi garden?
Special about the Garden is that it is filled with Trees and Plants that one would like to see in their city, There are numbers of plants and the trees that we can’t even name. Lodi Garden is not just a Garden it is a Heaven for the People residing in Delhi or NCR region, according to me It should have been named ‘EDEN GARDEN’ as its beauty, Greenery and Freshness always gratifies my soul. It is Spread over 90 acres it contains, Mohammed Shah‘s Tomb, Tomb of Sikandar Lodi, Shisha Gumbad and Bara Gumbad.
Lodi Gardens is mostly popular for exercise and walking enthusiasts, though there are many people who come here for the Picnic and other activities like to play outdoor games, Professional Shoots and Dance practice, and to spend some quality time with someone etc.
The Speciality of the Garden is that it is not an ordinary Garden it has won many awards and trophy in the competitions with NCR or other cities in order of maintaining the Garden and making it beautiful. What makes it better and awesome is, that the Garden is bigger than any Garden in Delhi and NCR, Gardener and other workers that keep it alive every day, Security Guards are everywhere to ensure people are safe too, Gym instrument that is placed there for the People who love to workout and people like me who wants to explore the Nature and want to breathe in an area covered or surrounded with Grass, Flowers and various kinds of Trees. Well for people who love to work in an area or Garden like this, the garden is set with the WIFI everywhere so that people won’t miss their social activities. What I love the most is that where the City’s Air is Polluted and yet the city has the beautiful Garden with the most Greenery available with many types of Flowers that has a separate area doesn’t make me believe that the Garden is alive in this situation, it has also a small artificial water fountain beside which domestic Goose stay and makes it more beautiful and many more to explore. There are also many birds which can be found in this garden.
5. How many types of birds have you been able to capture in Lodhi garden?
I have managed to capture several species of Birds. Below are pics of them:
6. Do you have any interesting experience about photography you would like to share?
Ah, actually every moment in Photography is interesting I would say, because the moment that you are capturing will be an interesting moment when you will look back to it after years, but yeah once I was in my hometown and as a Photographer I had some knowledge about wild birds and animals, so one fine day I got to save a Eurasian Eagle Owl and rescued it and handed over to the Forest Department of Jamui Bihar, India.
The Happiest moment was for me when the Officers said, ”There is no one like you in this village who would spend his valuable time and energy to save a bird, we need more people like you.”
Also I wasn’t alone in this rescue, I had first messaged a professional Photographer on Instagram named ‘AarzooKhuranaPhotography’ who is a student of Sudhir Shivaram and Varun Aditya who are India’s leading Wildlife Photographers, had seen my messages and replied also talked to me on phone calls, which I wasn’t expecting at all. So this was the Most Interesting experience in my Photography Journey.
7. What photography gear do you use or wish you had?
I currently use Canon 550D (t2i) with 18-135mm IS lens and Nikon Coolpix P900. The gear I wish to have is any gear from which I can take my desired shot because it’s not about the gear but the skills and what you are capturing, but yes we need some telephoto lens in order to achieve some greater shots in Wildlife.
8. Who’s your inspiration?
Anyone who does better Photography, Inspires me to do more. Currently, I learn the most from Varun Aditya and Sudhir Shivaram.
9. What have you learned from your experience with photography?
Honestly I have learnt a lot not only how to shoot or edit pictures but yes in real life it helped me understand the current situation of our planet and our lives affecting Wildlife and Nature. What we should do and what we should not, I have understood now.
10. Do you have any advice or tips for anyone who wants to pursue wildlife or nature photography?
Yes, if you want to do Wildlife Photography, you must understand it first that you aren’t just going out and capturing photos but how you can help Animals/Birds live their lives better, how you are studying it or what actions you are taking it to protect it. Click pictures and make people aware that what is wrong that we are doing towards Wildlife & Nature and what we are doing right. Click less, Protect more!
