Our Birthday getaway to Sula Vineyards

When you think about vineyards you either picture Napa Valley in the US or the vineyards of France or Italy. But we have many vineyards in India especially in western India in the state of Maharashtra.

One of the popular vineyards is Sula Vineyards which is located in Nashik. Nashik is a city which is approximately 200 – 300 km away from the popular cities of Mumbai and Pune. It is the perfect getaway for anyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life and relax among nature while sipping on wine!

Did you know?: It is one of the most eco- friendly wineries in the world.

Since we love drinking wine, it has always been on our bucket list. We finally made it to Sula Vineyards in Nashik, India for our birthday this year. It took us approx. 5 hours to reach Nashik from Pune by road. We had booked a cab to take us to Nashik and back and also around. For accommodation, we were staying at the Hotel Grand Rio. You can read our review here.

So, after a good rest, we started out from our hotel which was approx. 30 mins away from the Vineyards. The Vineyards are located away from the actual city which is good. The journey was very picturesque.

We visited during the monsoon season. It had been raining when we were travelling from Pune and we were hoping that it stops as we didn’t want our birthday to be ruined.

Thankfully it wasn’t raining when we reached there and we were relieved. We reached in the afternoon and the sun was blaring, but we were super excited. Make sure you wear sunscreen and carry sunglasses and water if visiting during Summer.

As soon as we reached, we started clicking pictures near the entrance. We were so busy posing and were about to enter when the guard reminded us to buy tickets to enter. The charge for adults is Rs. 100 per person, but you can redeem that at the restaurant inside so it is worth it. Also, there are no parking charges as such, you can park your vehicles inside without any problem.

We booked the tickets and then entered. There were so much greenery and flowers inside that we were awestruck to see the beautiful view. We walked and posed for pics along the way. There are many cute props likes yellow bicycles and wine bottles along the way where one can pose for pics.

There are two restaurants Little Italy and Rasa. The timings for both the restaurants are as follows – Lunch: 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Dinner: 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. IST. In the main building, there is another restaurant and you can also book wine tasting tours. In the case of a big group, you can book these tours on their official website. You can also sign up at the store when you reach there. Make sure to check out the dry days on their website before going, as you would miss the tour if you go on a dry day. Except for dry days, the tours are held every day from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

We decided to have lunch first as we were hungry. The other two restaurants had closed for the afternoon much to our disappointment and we realized that we should have checked the timings earlier.

Anyway, we visited the restaurant in the main building and sat inside in the AC room as it was pretty hot. The views from the restaurant of the vineyards were really amazing. We ordered Rose which we had with nachos and pizza. Since it was our birthday and there was no traditional cake, we ordered a brownie and cut that 😀 The food was ok not that great and service was quite slow.

After a nice lunch, we just sat and relaxed soaking in the nice ambience. We were too full (lazy) to go on the wine tour). But we didn’t really regret it as we finally crossed this place off our bucket list.

After some time, we visited the washrooms which were pretty clean and then headed to the shops. There are shops in the main building from where you can buy different types of wines that are made at the vineyard and also gift items like fridge magnets, keychains and t-shirts etc.

There is also an Amphitheatre which is located just behind both these restaurants. You can check the website to book the same for any birthday parties or wedding celebrations. They also have a hotel located inside the premises which is known as Source at Sula

During harvest season they even have grape stomping and they also have a Sula festival every year. For more detailed information you can visit their website here – Sula Wines.

In all, we were happy and a little tipsy at the end of the day.

Thank you for reading. If you haven’t visited Sula Vineyards yet, you definitely should, especially if you love wine. Cheers! 🙂
